The International Baccalaureate® Primary Years Programme (IB – PYP) brings a transformative experience for students, their parents, teachers and the entire community of the school offering the programme.
Designed for children in the age group of 3 to 12 years, the PYP mirrors the finest of educational research and thought leadership. It allows students to be in control of their learning. It also builds a collaborative environment for teachers where they can enhance learning methodologies to improve the self-motivation skills and confidence of students.
Parents who enrol their children for the IB PYP also become partners in their learning process to build an integrated educational experience.
With its inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning, the IB PYP is underpinned by 6 Transdisciplinary Themes:
- Who we are
- Sharing The Planet
- Where we are in place and time
- How we express ourselves
- How the world works
- How we organise ourselves
During an academic year, under each of these themes, the students delve into one Unit of Inquiry that is focused on a specific concept. The unit is integrated into other subject areas wherever appropriate while following the transdisciplinary approach.
Leveraging the inquiry method, the students develop new skills that are essential to succeed in different fields and address the challenges of an evolving world.
Additionally, while taking up any unit, students and teachers work together to identify what they wish to understand, what they already know, what they need to know, and what is the best way to discover them all.
With a focus on decision-making, problem-solving, research and action in real-life situations, the units nurture learners and enable them to become responsible global citizens.
Once they reach the final year of PYP, students participate in a comprehensive and collaborative project called PYP Exhibition. It brings them together to work as a team and conduct a detailed inquiry into any real-world problem.
The exhibition becomes an occasion for students to display the attributes that defined their IB learner profile while they followed the PYP. It also offers them and their school a unique platform to celebrate learners’ growth and development for the next stage of their school education.
